The Air Travel Insolvency Protection Advisory Committee (Atipac) has backed proposals for a ?1 ATOL levy to protect passengers when tour operators fail and to counter the deficit in the Air Travel Trust Fund (ATTF).
Atipac's annual report showed that 27 ATOL-holding travel firms collapsed in the last year, taking ?3.2 million from the ATTF and pushing the fund ?20,055,252 million into the red in total.
